Garmin has developed a very exact working and hence successful tool, the GPS 60SXc. A lot of folks have bought this unit and even bought it a second time, after the tool got stolen, lost or damaged. For those of you who don't know, SiRF is THE most important producer of GPS chips. Put simple, they rock!
It only ways 7.5 ounces, is robust as well as waterproof, and ideal for both marine and outdoor use. It has plenty of features such as an electric compass and a barometric altimeter. Two really cool tools. It also comes with a preinstalled map and a microSD card.
