Your hiking experience will not be as enjoyable if you lack planning and organizing. The trekker will reduce the weight he carries only if proper planning is involved. The first thing you should do is to decide the trail to take for the hike. Are you a mountain or a desert trekker?

Is a lakeshore walk a good idea for you, or would you instead opt for a hike in the woods? Know your preferences and settle on a trail before you start organizing the things you will need to bring. Is it essential to bring only the things that you truly need.

In packing your food, the secret is to pack light. Some trekkers go for freexe-dried meals. They are light and convenient. You can also try dehydrating almost any food that you like to eat. Vegetables and beans can be dehydrated and can make a very filling meal.

But they are not heavy on the stomach. It will also be easier to combine a single meal in one zip lock plastic bag. If, for example, you will have macaroni and cheese for dinner, you may mix the macaroni, powdered cheese sauce, powdered milk, and salt and pepper in the same zip lock bag. Then the only thing that will complete your meal will be the water. This technique makes preparation of a meal so much easier.

Note down the things that you cannot do without. If you need to take items along, make sure to remove the excess packaging to reduce weight and space. If you need to bring a toilet paper, remove the carton core so that it will be easier to squeeze it in along with your other toiletries.

If you are health conscious, it also pays to strap on a Garmin 305 or 205 monitor. To know which gadget is right for you, you can go online and read the Garmin 305 reviews and the Garmin 205 reviews to assist you on settling on the kind of monitor which will be most useful for your kind of training.
